• Common Skin Care Blunders to Avoid!

You wear sunscreen every day, don’t smoke, and spare no expense on skin creams and potions. But despite your best intentions, you may still be making errors that can lead to premature aging. Here are some common skincare blunders to avoid.

    1. Over Exfoliating

People with dry skin often think exfoliating can help by sloughing away dry flakes and dead skin cells. Yet, over exfoliation can make dry skin worse by impairing your skin’s ability to hold onto water, and can also ruin your natural moisture barrier, which leads to dull, lifeless and older looking skin. Again, this is why it is so important to know your own skin. Just by paying attention to your skin you will know when and how often you should exfoliate. We have a short video coming out soon where we talk about exfoliation and the importance of exfoliation. Hopefully this will be out in a few weeks.

    2. Using the Same Moisturizer Year-Round

Some skin types are oily in the summer and dry in the winter. This is because there is less moisture in the air during the winter season and skin can easily become dehydrated. If you have oily skin, don’t assume you should use an oil-free moisturizer all year around–or that you can go without any moisturizer at all. In fact, because of your skin care regimen you could be causing your skin to produce more oil. Using harsh chemicals and drying products will actually accent the problem. Again, knowing your skin and what products would be best for your skin type is of utmost importance. If you have mature skin, using an oil cleanser, and an anti-aging serum or an all natural moisturizer on your skin will definitely improve your skin all the way around. One other tidbit, it is vital to change up our moisturizers and skin care regimens.

    3. Using a Harsh Cleanser

People love the tight, tingly feeling they get after using foaming cleansers and bar soaps, but that feeling just means your natural lipids have been stripped away, leaving your complexion parched, dry and more prone to premature wrinkling. If you are using any cleansers with Sodium Lauryl Sulfate I would ditch them as soon as possible. This ingredient is extremely harsh on the skin and is a very aggressive detergent. Instead use our Organic Cleansing Oil for the Oil Cleansing Method, OCM,  this one step will make the world of difference in your skin. Pores will be reduced, wrinkles will soften and diminish and your skin will become more youthful and refined. We also offer a gel with 8% hydroxy’s, which will gently cleanse your skin, but will not strip it of it’s vital nutrients and natural moisture barrier.  Honestly, look at your cleanser, you may be shocked at what your putting on your skin. Changing your cleanser is the first step toward younger, beautiful skin.

    Until next time,
