  • How to Create the Perfect Cat Eyeliner

Posted on December 1st, 2011 tracy No comments

Here’s how to do it in three super simple steps.

    1. Put concealer on to your eyelids which makes your eyeshadow adheres

    2. Black liquid liner—sweep the liner all the way from the inner corner of the upper eyelid to the outer
corner as close to the lash line as possible, staring with a thin line and going thicker as you move along.

    3. Create a little “wing” at the outer corner of the eye, drawing the line up and out. Repeat until you get the desired effect. Let dry, curl your lashes and apply several coats of black mascara.

And here’s a tip: Make sure to keep the rest of your makeup neutral to avoid looking overdone.

  • Keeping Your Mineral Foundation looking Dewy not Matte

Posted on November 22nd, 2011 tracy No comments

Foundations that are matte liquid, or mineral-based, can erase your youthful glow and that beautiful dewy look.

If you are using any foundation that has too much matte, it will accentuate facial dryness. As we age we tend to lose hydration, which leads to dullness of skin tone, and causes our face to look dry, tight and more wrinkled. In order to appear more youthful it is essential to make sure that the face looks hydrated, glowing and plump. As always, proper skincare is vital for younger looking skin. Oils can help create that perfect canvas for your foundation.

Mineral Powder Foundations can look beautiful and glowing on the face. As I stated above, you must start with proper skincare, and you must exfoliate so your canvas is in perfect shape to begin your mineral application. In all honesty, I have tried numerous mineral foundations and the only one that has worked well is the one we carry. I’m sure there are other great ones out there, but I just haven’t come across them yet.

Also, if you desire that youthful dewy look, applying a facial mister is a must! If your skin looks dry after you apply your minerals foundation, spritz a little of our Herbal Tonique or Vit C Ester onto your face and it will radiate beauty. The facial mister causes your minerals to look dewy and not matte, which is what you should aim for to have that youthful glow.

Liquid Minerals are another beautiful foundation if you desire that youthful glow. Personally I love the tinted mineral moisturizer as it goes on easily.

It is important to avoid being overzealous with the minerals in those danger zones which we have, such as the outer corners of eye area, tops of the cheekbones, the upper lip line, and the smile lines next to the mouth.

  • Why Facial Toners are a Must!

Posted on November 1st, 2011 tracy No comments

Using an all natural toner is a must for the appearance and health of your skin. It is much more then a skin conditioner. It is a vital component for your skin care regime. There are actually four basic reasons why we use toner on our skin.

Toners deeply clean our pores and remove all the impurities on our skin. In addition, they re-balance our skin to the proper ph which is of utmost importance. Furthermore, facial toners bring hydration and moisture content to our skin. Last but not least, is the assistance it gives for penetration of other treatments and moisturizers.

A nutrient toner deeply cleans our pores and removes all the impurities associated with day to day living. Removing the last traces of make up is vital for beautiful, younger looking skin. It also helps to remove dead skin cells, which cause our face to look dull and rough. If the debris is not removed, you are only forcing it deeper into your pores as you apply your facial treatments and moisturizers on top, trapping the debris that can cause bumps, blackheads, enlarged pores, and rough texture. We’ve heard that we can close our pores, but that is a myth. Pores cannot be closed, but they can appear smaller with proper cleansing, toning, etc…If you have congested pores, give a toner a try. Stay away from alcohol based toners as they will cause more damage to your skin then benefits. Stay with a nutrient rich toner the will aid in the healing and beauty of your skin. Give toner a try and see the difference in the appearance of your pores.

The toner we carry at Nature’s Genesis is alcohol free and contains nurturing plant extracts to maintain healthy balance within the skin. MSM is one of the top ingredients in our toner, which is necessary for the production of collagen. The 100% all natural ingredients are non-drying because they are formulated with the finest botanical extracts. In fact our toner adds moisture rather than taking it out.

  • How to Care for Winter Skin

Posted on October 18th, 2011 tracy No comments

    HI Ladies,

Here is a good article on how to care for your skin during those cold winter months.

Winter is among us or soon approaching. Even though around the country the climates vary, the problems our skin experiences are similar. In the winter your skin deals with a lot of harsh environments, strong winds, cold air, indoor heaters, rain, snow, sleet and an overall lack of a good healthy dose of sunlight. We are left with dry skin that can become chapped and cracked. But have no fear the cures to your skin’s winter ailments are simple. Your skin’s goals this winter should be to moisturize, exfoliate and moisturize again. Keep moisture in mind with all the choices you make in your skin care regime. Your skin functions differently in the winters so you need to change your routines.

    Cleanse:
Winter is the time of year when you need to put away your foaming and soap cleansers and stock up on crème cleansers. Cleansing crèmes, lotions, milks and oils are very effective cleansers and they do not contain the typical surfactant or detergent ingredients that most cleansing gels contain which can be too harsh on your skin in the winter months.

    Tone:
Put away your astringents and switch to a toner for winter. Your skin needs to be soothed and balanced and not dried out further by an astringent.

    Moisturize:
Choose heavier crèmes in the winter than you would in the summer months. Feel free to use your heavy eye crème around your lips and entire face. If your skin is itching it is because the dry air of winter is causing the moisture in the top layer of your skin to evaporate quickly. You will need to slather those areas with extra moisture until you feel relief. Never be afraid of using pure oils on your skin in the winter months.

    Exfoliate:
Exfoliate twice per week to remove dead skin cells and allow your skin to absorb the extra moisture you are lathering on. The central heating plays havoc on the sebum our skin normally produces, which makes our skin lose water which should be retained in the lower dermis of the skin. Have you ever wondered about the areas of your skin that looks like your skin is flaking off your body? What happens is that during the winter months there are thousands of dry skin cells ready to be sloughed off the surface and they become clumped together with oil which forms what appear to be flakes. Don’t be flaky, exfoliate! Exfoliate your skin with crème based exfoliates with jojoba beads and your body will soak up the rich oils of a butter or oil based body scrub.

  • The Importance of Makeup

Posted on October 13th, 2011 tracy No comments

    HI Ladies,

I thought this was an interesting article, and thought you might enjoy it.

Women who wear makeup are perceived as more attractive and competent than those who do not, according to a recently released study headed by Harvard Medical School Assistant Professor Nancy L. Etcoff.

The study, titled “Cosmetics as a Feature of the Extended Human Phenotype: Modulation of the Perception of Biologically Important Facial Signals,” asked participants to judge a variety of women’s photographs based on a number of characteristics including attractiveness, competence, likeability, and trustworthiness.

Researchers were particularly interested to see how makeup affected judgments both automatically and after longer deliberation, they said.

“I’m interested in bringing science to the study of adornment,” said Etcoff, a psychology professor who has studied this topic for over 20 years. “The study aimed to address exactly what we look at when we judge a person, and what these tools do.”

The study, which involved researchers from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Procter & Gamble Cosmetics, Boston University, and HMS, was first released in the online publication PLoS ONE on Monday.

In the study, two groups, each with over one hundred participants, were asked to rate photographs of female faces with varying levels of “color cosmetics” applied by a professional makeup artist. Participants in the first group only saw the photographs for 250 milliseconds, while those in the second group had an unlimited amount of time to examine them.

Judging a number of qualities, participants then used a sliding scale to input their ratings directly into a computer. The responses were sent to a statistician at Dana-Farber.

Findings revealed that cosmetics have a significant and automatic effect on judgments of attractiveness. Even more importantly, makeup provides additional facial stimuli that influence more long-term, deliberative judgments on social factors such as trustworthiness.

Sarah A. Vickery, co-researcher for the study and principal scientist at Procter & Gamble Beauty and Grooming, summarized these findings in an interview with CBS News.

“This means that makeup really can be seen as a tool in a woman’s arsenal that allows her to actually control the way the world sees her,” she said in the interview.

But despite the physically-oriented implications of these findings, the study also revealed that positive perception decreases as women apply heavier makeup. To this end, Etcoff emphasized that in no way should the study imply that women need to use cosmetics or abide by social convention.

“People don’t want to judge a book by its cover, and yet they still do,” she said. “But what matters is how we perceive ourselves. Women can still be confident and competent without makeup.”

  • How to Apply Concealer

Posted on September 30th, 2011 tracy No comments

    HI Ladies,

    All Natural Mineral Concealer

    All Natural Mineral Concealer

For those looking for the perfect concealer to cover those annoying problem areas, such as the dark circles under the eye, keep reading for a great tip!

Using the proper color of concealer and having the right placement is vital to achieving the right look, and hopefully do away with those dark spots. Women with caucasian coloring need a concealer that is no more than one shade lighter than the rest of their face. It should also have a hue of either salmon, melon, and/or pink to counteract the dark circles, which most of us have on those oh so tired days.

Interestingly, most ladies get the placement of concealer totally wrong. More times than not, concealer is not needed on the outer third of the eye. When concealer is applied there it will only enhance the crow’s feet which most of us do not want highlighted! Only apply concealer wherever there is darkness.

Here is the best rule of thumb. Think of the shape of a comma. Apply from the inner corner of the eye and extend the concealer to where you can feel your ocular bone. If you follow this tip, you will have the perfect look!

  • How to Apply Eye Makeup For Mature Women

Posted on September 18th, 2011 tracy No comments

As most of you know, the first thing to show age is the delicate eye area. One of the little tricks of the trade is to switch the color of your eye liner. Since most of us grew up wearing the typical black, it has been hard to make the switch, but this alone will make you look years younger.

Personally I love the look of the dark brown in our Olive Eye Trio. It is perfect for every eye color. I can attest to that since I’ve used this on a number of my clients. Anyone with blue, green, hazel, or brown eye color. It looks great. You could also use grey if you would like too.

    Hope this little tidbit helps.
